Veenapani means "the one who plays veena", which means the goddess Saraswati. Pani by itself means water or "flowing".

Saraswati is called the Mother of the Veda's and the repository of Brahma's creative intelligence. Saraswati is also called Vak Devi, the goddess of speech. In Japan, the goddess Benten is seen as a manifestation of Sarasvati.
